President
Current: Elly Biggerstaff Elly has served on the board for more than 10 years in various positions. She also teaches at KCCG. The PRESIDENT runs the board meetings once a month, attends member meetings and KCCG events, works with Vice-Chair on community activities, works with Building Coordinator and Studio Tech(s) regarding building needs. Time commitment outside of meetings varies from 3-5 hours/week. |
Vice President
Current: Paul Storms Paul is our Artist in Residence & one of the Kiln Techs. He arrived in 2009. Paul also teaches at KCCG. The VP attends board meetings and run them should the President be unable to. The VP also attends member meetings and KCCG events. The VP coordinates the donations to the Kansas City Artists Coaliton auction and the KCCG Holiday Studio Tour and Sale. Time committment outside of meetings varies from 3-5 hours a week. |
Treasurer
Current: Melynda Steward Melynda has been the Treasurer since December of 2009 and a member of the Guild since 1999. She creates functional and decorative stoneware pieces. The TREASURER attends the board and member meetings monthly and attends KCCG events, Pays the bills in a timely manner, Handles all documents for accounting, Prepares year end reports for accountant, keeps legal documents up to date, The treasurer oversees the bookkeeper and interprets the monthly report to give guidance as to the current financial position of the Guild. Time commitment outside of meetings varies from 1-3 hours/week. |
Secretary
Current: Jan Pickler Jan has been a member for some time and takes classes as well. She has been a board member for 3 years. The SECRETARY attends board and member meetings, takes notes, copies and distributes minutes, writes thank you notes and maintains telephone tree. Time commitment outside meetings varies from 1-3 hours/month. |
Board Positions~
About the BoardWith the large number of members we have now, we have an incredible opportunity to take the KCCG to the next level, but we need fresh ideas from new members like you! There are many opportunities for volunteering and you may have a skill we need.
Listed here are the elected positions at KCCG, but help is always needed at any time of year. If you want to help, but don’t feel up to taking on the responsibility of a board position or committee chair, please sign up as an assistant and leave any contact info on the sheet and/or contact the KCCG President or Vice President via the form on the Contact page. All members on the board must attend board and member meetings. Board meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month. Meetings start at 7:00pm andlast about 2 hours. Board members are expected to take a Chairman position on the board. Board members should be active at the Guild and act as liaisons between the board and KCCG members. |
Board ElectionsElections are held every year during the month of March. Board members are nominated between March 1 - 22.
Nominations are taken from members. Any member in good standing may be nominated. Any member in good standing my also vote. Voting takes place between March 23 - 31. Votes are tallied on April 1 and the new board is announced at April's board meeting. |

Program/Workshop-
Brett Boyer Although this is Brett's first time to serve on the board, he has been active as a monitor and a teacher at KCCG. He spent a year living and working as a potter in Japan. The Program/Workshop Chair attends board meetings, creates and facilitates workshops and 2nd Wedneday Workshops for members. Attends board and member meetings, plans and facilitates at least 2 paid workshops including finding, scheduling, confirming, transporting, and housing artists, as well as providing information about the workshop to the publicity committee chair, and running the actual workshop. The P/W chair also researches, plans, coordinates, sets up '2nd Wednesday Workshops' for the membership and their guests. Time commitment outside of meetings and the actual workshops is 8-10 hours per workshop. |
Membership-
Thomas Nunnick Thomas is one of our kiln techs at KCCG and has served as Education Chair. Before coming to KCCG he graduated from the Kansas City Art Insititute and was a resident at Red Star Studios in KCMO. The Membership Chair attends board meetings, maintains current member rosters and enters information from forms into the KCCG database. They also work with the Publicity/Communications Chair and in sending emails to the general membership and to the email list for events, classes, policy changes, etc. Time commitment outside of meetings is 1-2 hours a week. |
Gallery/Consignment-
Kent Waters Kent has been working at KCCG for several years. He is an Art teacher in a local school district and will be teaching 'Summer Ceramics for Yound Artists'. This is his first time to serve on the board. The Gallery Chair researches, contacts & coordinates ceramic artists to exhibit and sell in the Centered Earth Gallery at KCCG. They support artists showing in the gallery, schedules and assists with openings as needed, attends board and member meetings, communicates maintenance needs to the Building Chair. They also work with the Publicity Chair to coordinate publicity for each exhibit. Time commitment outside of meetings and show openings is 1-2 hours a week. |

Other Positions~
Building Coordinator~Helps the KC Clay Guild run smoothly by working directly with monitors and the board to facilitate use of the building. This position asks for at least 20 hours of work per week.
In exchange for this time, a private studio will be provided for use as well as free firings and use of the KC Clay Guild studio. |
Studio Monitors~Work during a specified shift each week, completing all supervision and cleaning tasks. In exchange for this work, free studio time, free firings, and a key to the building will be provided. Expected work time: 4 hours/week and quarterly monitor meetings. **A minimum of 2 hours must be spent organizing/cleaning, the other 2 can be used for own studio time.

Studio Technician~Along with the studio techs, we have 2-3 individuals that help maintain our weekly firing schedule along with glaze mixing, clay recycling, and basic maintenance of the studio. A private studio space is to be shared by all studio techs, as well as free firings and use of the KC Clay Guild studio.
